Think you need a few good tips on making a good website? Well, you've come to somewhere that will help you with making your site the best it can be! If we help you, drop us a comment, it'd be great to see how we've helped others!
Site Names
Well, let's get something straight, choosing a site name is not easy. Whilst we're not going to give you site names made by us, we're going to try and help you come up with one. Firstly, don't use lots of dashes and kisses - 'xx---fruity---flava---xx' doesn't really look so great, does it? Also, try to be original. 'SweetSugar' is pretty dull and unoriginal, whilst something with more interesting might sound and look better. You could even use words to describe what your site is about. For example, our site could be called 'Flava-Designs', or 'FruityHelp'. You could even incorporate your name into your site's name - 'ImmortalMelon' would be an example for Melon. Maybe you could use a colour, animal, song, band? 'DoItLikeADude', 'PurplePandaz', 'OfMiceAndMen' are some examples.
Layouts and Graphics
You don't have to make your own graphics and layouts - you can always use graphics and layouts provided/designed by others. However, you must remember to give credit and pay if you're supposed to. If you make your own graphics, follow these tips. Firstly, make sure you use a decent program, such as Adobe Photoshop, Jasc/Corel Paint Shop Pro, GIMP or Photofiltre. Try not to use Paint or Powerpoint - remember, GIMP is free so you should really try and use that if you can't afford a premium program. Using textures, custom fonts and brushes is great, and you can also use Scripts, Actions, PSD and layout adjustments/filters to recolour your images and make them look more unique,
Website Etiquette
Right, here's a few tips on keeping your website up to scratch in general. You have to make sure that you don't TlK lYK dIs or anything like that. Use the correct punctuation and grammar, and try and spell as well as you can, using spell check when you need to. Keep your pages organized, inform your visitors of updates and goings on via blog or updates list. Make sure you use colours that are easy on the eyes, and don't use fonts that won't show on others' computers, unless you use the correct CSS. However, you should always choose fonts carefully, especially for website text. Try not to steal/copy others graphics, codes, blogs etc, and ask/get permission before you redistribute content.
